Girls basketball at Lincoln is an interscholastic sport which takes place
in the fall and winter seasons, beginning in mid-October and ending in
early January. Any female student in grades 7 or 8 may sign up to try out
for the team, and must have a recent physical exam on file to do so.
Usually 20-30 students try out for each team, at the 7th and 8th grade
level. Twelve to fifteen girls make each team. Participants who are chosen
for the team are required to pay a participation fee of $123 to cover the
costs which include coaches' pay, referees' fees, and transportation
costs.

Once the team is chosen, either practices or games occur almost every
school day in between the hours of 3-6pm. At practices, the fundamentals
are stressed through drills which involve offensive and defensive skills.
These skills include ball handling, defensive positioning and movements,
passing, rebounding, and of course shooting. General principles that are
taught in basketball transcend the game itself and build character. For
example, the teamwork concept is always emphasized, and great
sportsmanship is always demanded and modeled. Girls are encouraged to put
100% of their energy into things they CAN control, like being prepared and
practicing hard, and 0% energy into things they cannot, like missed shots
and questionable referee calls.

Lincoln's girls basketball teams compete in the Mid-Suburban Middle School
Athletic Conference which is comprised of seven teams local teams. Each
school plays a home and away game versus each of the other schools. These
games are scheduled as double-headers involving the seventh grade and
eighth grade teams. The schedule for these games can be found on the
Lincoln website. More specific questions can be directed to Lincoln's
athletic director, Karen Sandstead, or to the coaches: Mr. Crail (7th),
Ms. Chronopoulos (8th), or Ms. Elzer (8th).
